K&N Cold Air Intake 2014-2015 Volkswagen Jetta / Jetta GLI / Passat 1.8/2.0L
The 2014-2015 VW Jetta GLI also has an intercooled 1.8L turbo-4, which packs an impressive 210-hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. This engine became available in the Volkswagen Passat for 2015. That's enough twist to get you to 60 mph in the high-6 second range. But if you want to turn your VeeDub into a real Autobahn cruiser, the K&N 69-9507TTK Typhoon Performance Intake System can add an estimated 3.8-hp and 5.7 lb-ft of torque. And by eliminating airflow restrictions, this K&N intake can help the turbo spool up faster for more immediate throttle response.
To make power, a turbo engine uses exhaust gases to spin a turbine that forces air inside the intake. But the air must first be cooled, so it's routed through a sort of 'air radiator' called an intercooler. Since fuel needs air in order to burn, adding a high volume of oxygen-rich cold air will cause a stronger combustion cycle, which results in more horsepower. However, most factory intake systems, like the one on your 2014-2015 Jetta/Passat 1.8L turbo, use narrow intake tubes that are full of sharp bends, and other obstructions.
The stock air intake tract can cause the air to swirl around as it enters the system, and this turbulence can make the intercooler less effective. By eliminating these restrictions and straightening the airflow path, the K&N 69-9507TTK Typhoon Performance Intake System is able to feed the motor a higher volume of cold air, allowing it to make more power, from roughly the same amount of fuel.
In order to give your VW turbo more air to work with, the K&N 69-Series Typhoon Performance Intake System replaces the narrow plastic factory intake tubes with a wider, powder-coated aluminum K&N intake tube. The aluminum tube is bent using an industrial mandrel bending machine, to provide a smoother, low-restriction airflow path.
